maybe wayne is right- and I'm getting your reboot/restart ICE tug at lower speeds because the car & CVT belt is new (er). I don't get the lurch/tug below 10 miles/hour, but there are not so many places where I'm coasting to a stop- so that rebooting becomes useable for me. usually, I'll put the car in neutral & coast for a while then re-engage D when my speed gets to 28-30ish. which I guess is really a modified pulse & glide.
sorry valentine Wayne- married with 2 kids. Lake dude is out of luck. My husband & kids are amazingly tolerant of my obsession with mileage- though there is alot of eye-rolling from the kids. Still- they pushed the car into the garage the other day, so I didn't have to re-start it! they thought it was a lark.

may the road always be downhill, and the wind at your back-
Kate

Hi Kate:

___You just broke a thousands hearts … Lakedude’s being at the top of the list

___In regards to your personal version of EV mode in the HCH, the kids and I have pushed the Insight, Accord, Corolla, Ranger, and even the MDX to move them out of the way of one another more times than I care to count

___Give your HCH a few more miles and I bet she smoothes out after hearing from the other HCH’ers that use FAS’s. To give up a 55 - 65 miles per hour down to a 30 miles per hour and back FAS would be a real FE killer in my non-hybrid’s as well as the now retired Insight

___Good Luck

Quick update:

120 miles into new tank I'm at 56.0 MPG, mainly due to a very oft-used shift into neutral and allowing for a ICE-on coast. Can't wait in another 1k miles till I change the oil for the first time and see if the FE takes off even more. Finally feels like I'm getting the most I can out of my car right now, but I know it can get better!

cool-
I'm only 100 miles into a new tank too, and it is also a personal best so far- 59mpg. really too early for me to hope though, these things have a way of going down with circumstances.....
it just takes me forever to go through a tank- what with no commute

good luck & keep working at it!
