Default Am I hypermiling?

I have never really driven for mileage until this week. Put 60psi in the tires, and set the cruise at 58mph. I'm getting over 63mpg on the DC beltway, and parkways. Wife used the car today, and I used my motorcycle. I am trying my best to get fair mileage out of the bike, but 1200cc of carburated fuel guzzler is a challenge. I'm guessing the bike is in the mid 40's driving very conservatiive. I've been keeping the bike under 3000rpm on acceleration, and under 4000rpm on the highway. This has been really hard for me not to do any wheelies, or 2nd gear downshifts and blast off, but we must all make sacrifices....

what has 60lbs of presure? The bike or the civic? If its the civic thats a tad high for my tastes but that mater is up for debate.

63mpg would definately be hypermiling in pretty much anything (except maybe the insite)

Hi Challenger1:

___If the EPA did bikes, I am sure you would qualify for hypermiler status You are doing great with that 1,200 cc monster to receive 60 + mpg in my book. A bike on the DC beltway? That takes some rather large Cajone’s if I do say so myself!

___Keep her under 2,500 on accelerations and below 3,500 at cruise if possible. Maybe second or third gear starts to help keep her consumption down. IIRC (17 + years ago is a long long time) my Honda Hurricane ran at or around 3.5K at 60 and I could get 55 + out of her back and forth to work way back when.

___Good Luck

Anything over 47.5 mpg is hypermiling for a CVT HCH. 63 is very good.

Ooops, maybe I should clarify things. I think the bike is getting about mid 40's and the car is now down from the 60's into the high 50's. Wife still has the car, and is doing a great job keeping the mileage up. Yes, tire pressure is at 60lbs. in the car. It is a bit high, but at the lower speeds I'm driving, I'm not overly concerned.

I'm trying so hard not to let my bike start breathing. I love hearing the whine of the motor, and the feeling of being pulled through at blistering speeds. 4000rpm gets me 70mph, so I'll try to back down to 3500 and see how that feels. As it is, when I stop the bike, I can smell gas. Might have to adjust my carbs.
