Default Antenna

Hey guys,

I just took a nice look at my 05 Honda Civic Hybrid and one thing sticks out when I glance over and that is the long boner type stick that is on top of my roof. Ha! I'm just playing. But is there anyway that you can change antennas so that it's not reaching for the skies? I mean, my XM radio satellite antenna is just a tiny black box. Can't FM/AM radio antennas be the same? I'm just curious....

I think the length has to do with the wavelength of the frequencies it has to pick up. Though You could try getting little mini antenas. I think they make some that are just for show but you might be able to take the antena part and screw it into your stock antenna spot. You could also just lay the antenna down as far as it will go. I have an 03 so if the 05 antennas can't move then dissregard.

Yes it should. A priest at my church got one for his hybrid.

Humm. I'm so tempted to pull the trigger and order one of those.

I wonder if it hurts the reception. Well I guess I'll think about it.

I believe at the end of the thread, the member concluded that the reception did suffer a bit for weak signals, but it wasn't a huge deal.

Default Re: Antenna

Alright, just a little update on the antenna situation. I finally got my JOM - Black Sharan Style Aluminum Antenna from www.parts4euro.com, but when it finally came (like a week & a half after I ordered) the antenna was not really a good fit for the 2005 HCH. Even though the 5mm base is correct, the base for the stubby black antenna was too thick. Also, the black coating (too glossy) on the antenna is really different than the gray base for the HCH. Furthermore, the reception was significantly less. I tested it out and some of the stations that I heard perfectly from my car with the orginal antenna failed to broadcast properly (very weak signal) with the new antenna. Anyways, overall I was pretty disappointed after all that waiting anticipation, but we all have to learn lessons the hard way sometimes. I think I might shave the base down on this one and spray it gray. Maybe I could style it to my liking. Besides, I have XM radio which still is perfect and worse signals from my antenna is actually a good thing when listening to XM radio. Ha! Alright, just wanted to put my five cents in. Hope I helped. Peace.
