Default bad mileage!

Hello, I recently purchased a civic hybrid for my wife who had a normal civic before. She used to get 35-38 mpg driving to work in her old civic.. She has driven the new one to work twice now(hybrid) and is only get 28mpg!! what in the world is going on? is there a problem? is the gauge right?

Thanks

It is impossible to tell from such limited information what is going on. Have you driven the car yourself? What transmission does each car have? How did you measure the mileage on the old Civic? What was the weather like on the day of the drive? Was it raining? Does the car act funny? Any error messages?

we measured the old civic just by doing the math after adding gas.. but the old isn't really the point, she commutes to work 65mph freeway,, she got 31 one day and 28 the other.. temprature is in the 70s and sunny.

It is an automatic, i drove it once, it isn't acting funny and no error messages.

Ok that sounds low, perhaps you should take it to the dealer. Your mileage under those conditions should be around 40-45mpg.

A CVT does not really have a "second".
