Default Calculated MPG 1.4 higher than dash

This is the first tank after getting my 62-mile bug fixed.
I know it will take the average of many tanks to be confident of the number.

On this first tank the dash was 63.6 and calculated was 65.0.

Is the calculated number being 1.4 MPG better than the dash typical for the 06 HCH2?

I think in my 04 HCH the calculated number averaged 2 or 3 MPG WORSE than the dash.

And if Honda can make it too low or too high, why can't they get it right?

.

Need fewer troops to support.
Drive a hybrid.
Best tank 71.65 MPG.

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

Talking Re: Calculated MPG 1.4 higher than dash

Kenny,

Good question. On my 17 tanks the calculated has been from .8 to 1.4 mpg higher than the display with most being 1.2 to 1.4 mpg higher. I use Trip B for lifetime, and my totals run about the same (.8 to 1.4) as the tanks. Good luck with new car.

Interesting. I have the exact same result. Calculated is exactly 1.4 higher than the dash. We might be on to something here....

Mr. Kite,

Thanks for the link to the previous discussion! I was wondering about this as my two tank fulls have given close to same results of 1.4 MPG higher on the calculation.

Mark

I get higher calculated averages sometimes on my HCH I. Other times calcuated is lower. I haven't bothered to find out the differences for every tank, I just figure the dash is right, despite all the discussions here that may suggest otherwise, I think it's more likely that the error occurs at the pump, as I fill up in different places all the time.

Maybe in the case of the HCHI, the dash is more accurate. However, if the HCHII dash is consistently lower than the calculated, this is not errors occuring at the pump.

My most recent tank was the first one for which I noted the MPG on the dash and compared to the manual calculation.
Dash - 44.5 MPG.
Calc - 47 MPG.

My most recent tank gave me 51.2 displayed with 54.4 actual. I went to the same station I always go to. Normally it isn't off by that much. It was my first time running the AC also.

my dash calculation is always at least 2mpg less than actual calculation and this is after the fix. For example, the dash displayed 48.2mpg this morning upon fillup. When I calculated the actual mpg it came to 50.38mpg.
