It's looking lemonesque.
That much for a CAT replacement. WOW!!! I would be doing it myself.

Fortunately, I won't have to do it myself *or* pay. HondaCare agreed to replace the catalytic converter -- even though it was out of warranty by 10k.

Of course, that means I'm going to sell my HCH around 129,900 miles, har har.

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

Is the catalytic converter a *known* component problem with 1st generation Honda hybrids, or am I just unlucky?
I met another civic hybrid owner, she had HCH1, she told me that she had the same problem as you, and extended waranty did not want to cover at first place, she had to deal with corp office. They eventually agreed to fix it under the extended waranty. It must be a recall or frequent issue then.

I hope this helps

so if you just got a HCH, get the update right away concerning the ECU and maybe the EGR valve if your having transmission problems.

.

i got around 20 km a liter when i drove a civic 5 spd using advanced hypermiler techniques
and now I drive a salvage nwh20 prius that gets almost to 25 km/l with 195,000 km to date.

Is the normal Honda warranty 80K for cats? I am at 103K so I am likely out of luck in any event, but was wondering if anyone has had luck getting Honda to spring for one at 100K+.

.

Thanks!

My cat went at 70 000 km. Engine check light went on so I brought it to the dealer. I have the extended warranty but the dealer said it was covered under the basic warranty.

Has anyone looked into after-market CAT.. You can get them for most cars for around $100. I wonder why Honda is so expensive?

in CA the HCH-II are smog exempt so i don't think we have to worry about that
