Default check gas cap warning

Suddenly in the middle of a tank without any touching of the gas cap, the check gas cap warning flashed where my odometer should be. I will bring it in to the dealer. Any one seen that?

I had it. Read your manual and do a search of these forums.

I saw that for the first time last Monday morning, May 1st. I stopped my the dealer just to make sure everything was OK. They explained that the system only goes through a vaccuum check about every 3 days or so. I opened the gas cap and closed it again making sure it clicked at least 3 times. By Friday the message had disappeared once the system did a vaccuum check and everything checked OK.

It happened to me after I rinsed off my old lawn mower. The mower filled my garage with a wet grass/gasoline smell. The "check cap" indicator came on a day later. Coincidence? I read on here that a gas fumes sensor will trigger the indicator.

Not bad for an automatic, eh?

This happened to me the other day. I've re-tightened the gas cap a couple of times. I filled the tank at a Valero gas station near my brother's place in a rural area of the state Sunday. The gas pumps were the older model without the Vapor Recovery Hose. Also my brother's driveway is in severe need of re-graveling,full of deep ruts that scraped the botton of poor Timothy The Tri-Toned Honda Civic Hybrid in a most alarming way.Was about to call my dealer about it, but now am not worried and will wait to see if it resets itself.
