Wow, I cannot believe this thread is still alive and kicking! Well, I started this discussion almost 5 years ago and thought some of you might be interested in knowing how things have transpired with my Civic Hybrid. The car is about 3 weeks from turning over 100,000 miles. It has been inexpensive and reliable beyond my wildest expectations.

-Oil changes every 10,000 miles since new with an average price of $48.00
-Tranny fluid and other fluids at 50000 miles $240.00
-Tires replaced at 80,000 miles. The set cost $88.00 and the dealership does free rotations for life.
-Insurance has cost $3200 since I have had the car or $65 per month.
-I'm still running the original rotors and brakes and have not had any issues with the car that have cost anything.
-My payment has been $365.00 per month and was financed with honda at 2.9%
-I put around 475 gallons of gas in the car a year. I have averaged about $1300 per year in gas from what I have gathered.

Based on 100,000 miles of use, I would put my monthly ownership costs at
$5.60 per month for oil changes
$8.60 per month in other fluid changes
$1.80 per month in tires
$65.00 per month for insurance
$365.00 per month car payment
$120.00 per month in gas
$566 per month for ownership to drive 1785 miles per month
or..........32 cents per mile. That's cheap.

My cost of ownership has been very good.

I have my car serviced at Ken Dixon Honda in Waldorf Maryland and they have been easy to work with.

Hehe... we always knew you could do it... we just didn't think it would take you this long! Pre-congrats on your first 100K. Let's all meet back here in another five years for your next centennial celebration. Oh, and do something nice for your car today!

I once upon a time went 430+ miles in less than my 11.1 gallon 4-door Honda Civic 1985 sedan. This car was huge inside ~ I could put a 23" bicycle in the trunk (wheels removed, and placed in the trunk), and I (I'm 6'1.5") could sit comfortably in all 4 seats - all at the same time !! The car weighed only 2016 lbs (nobody inside.)

So, while I'm happy for you getting 40+ mpg, I have gotten similar mileage in a non-hybrid civic.

Well, for your information I gave away my Civic last summer, so I think you're wrong to say those cars cannot be obtained. I was meaning to express my surprise that highway mileage has hardly improved in 25 years. I think it's because of Detroit's (and Japan's) intoxication with horsepower over fuel economy. My car had 76 horsepower and did 0-60 in 11.25 secs, but it was a great car and crossed the entire United States (coast-coast) twice, carrying at least 500 pounds of junk, myself, and an Akita.

We all had cars in the past that did more than what we get today. My 94' Civic was able to get 45mpg and that is with two airbags!

Honestly, if the government didn't mandate manufactures to install a hundreds of airbigs in our cars, we would then have lighter cars (like yester-year)

But nonetheless, our hybrids seems to be doing fairly well as compared to other non-hybrids.

118mph on the speedometer on a flat road. car was impressively stable at speed... gps put me at about 116mph... battery was good and charged and operating properly. tires all set to 40psi. I did it once when I bought the car late at nite, highway no one around. I won't do it again, but it was fun to see what it could do.

there's a big hill by my house and I find it amazing that I can pull that hill at 87mph. I know you can't accurately describe a hill, but trust me I'm impressed the car had the stuff to do that. before I embraced my hybrid lifestyle I bought a set of civic si rims. really looked awesome on the car, but I could only pull the same hill at 75mph and also had the obvious mpg loss. each tire/wheel was 7lbs heavier. that's a lot of rotational weight. sold the si wheels and embraced my hybrid's look.

now I focus on good mpgs, but enjoy the tq curve of the hybrid. i enjoy the mpg's the most... but the car does pull well for what it is...

that's an interesting post! I like the way you Talk... I sometimes starting to like my rims, I feel the civic is slow at start but like any other car when on the go... it is great on curves and one of the keys of good Regen is smart braking warching the road and I have realize brake is not that bad although if is a forced stop
