Coolant heaters and intake heaters

Coolant heaters and intake heaters
I have seen a fair amount of discussion on the need/desire to warm the engine up from an external source before startup on cold days.
Since it will be easier to install such devices when the weather is a bit more favorable for car self-help projects, I began to search for some sort of coolant heater for my HCH (FEH also).
While my search wasn't fruitless, it certainly was confusing.
I didn't find the "right" device or even something close to what I think I need.
Sometimes, however, when I try to think, nothing happens.
Might someone share their experience with coolant and intake heaters with me (and the community), or post a link to the proper thread?
Thanks!

Re: Coolant heaters and intake heaters
I have heard of Insight owners up north installing engine block heaters.
Check out: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...hidmodel=Civic
They show a block heater that should work with your Civic.
Ford should have something that would work in the FEH.
Most of the warm air intake mods are all home-brew, get the proper length of preheater hose and find a heat source (converter?). This is mainly to help MPG in colder weather.
Good luck.

Re: Coolant heaters and intake heaters
I checked out that site, and the heater they have is for a 2005 Civic. But, you have given me a better understanding of what I need.
I am confused that one needs to remove the bumper to install this. Is it my imagination, or is this just a way to increase the mechanics hours?
