Default First Oil Change Questions...

I now have 7200 miles and still have 20% oil life left. I still have not done my first oil change. I have had the car since late november. Should I have changed it?? I know new vehicles dirty the oil and that could possibly damage the engine right? Although the manual says to go by the oil indicator as to recommened oil change intervals. At what point in time did you guys get your oil changed.

You will get a service light (a wrench) when it hits 15% life. You should be able to wait
till about 5% to have it changed, I had mine done at 15% (about 8600 miles) just
personal preference others are waiting longer.

For all of my previous honda's, the "maint required" reminder light would come on at 7500 miles. It will flash as the odo approaches that mileage to let you know its almost time to change the oil. If you mainly drive short trips, you should use the "severe" conditions requirement of 5000 miles. If you do a lot of highway, then it can wait a little longer. With some of the newer Mobil 1 synthetic oils coming out now, you may even go 15,000 between changes. Changing the oil and filter is cheap insurance. Hope this helps.

My first change was at 7705 mi with 10% left. I am now at 15,500 with 20% left.
I left it alone until the wrench lit up becuse Honda advise you to do so. they particulary want you to go as afr as possibel on th first oil as they have additivies in it.
