GH Database VS EPA Estimates
Fellow '06 HCH owners,
I was recently looking at the GH Mileage Database. I did some very simple math. The EPA for our cars (Average) is 50 mpg. Our database (Jan 19, '06) shows 46.3. The difference is:
3.7 mpg. If you look at the Prius, EPA (Average) is 55.5 mpg. The GH database is 47.8 mpg for a difference of 7.7 miles per hour. It appears we're doing very well. When you factor in the break-in period, and the weather, I believe we will be even closer to the EPA by Sep, '06. This is way cool ! I'm not against Prius cars - I checked out both, and overall I liked the HCH better. It will be interesting to follow the HCH II's.
Enjoy those cars!
 Don
Best tank 67.5 mpg (555.5 mi.)
Best trip 91.5 mpg (42.2 mi.)

Re: GH Database VS EPA Estimates
Winter weather will drop FE by around 10% or so. People who have had their HCH2's for awhile claim a nice FE increase after 1500-3000 miles. Just work on your driving technique and wait for it

Ironically I am just approaching 2500 km's and this recent tank is averaging 5.5 L/100KM at the same weather (about -5 - -10 Celcius).
The previous 3 tanks averaged about 6.0 L/100KM. I have not changed my driving style significantly I just beleive the breakin period is over and the car is now performing better.
Cheers!

Re: GH Database VS EPA Estimates
All new cars have 'tight' engines in the beginning. Thus, the break in period (normally around 2000 miles). I can only imagine how much drag that causes during normal gas operation. Plus, when the HCH goes into EV mode and the electric motor still has to turn the tight engine, that can't be good for mpg.

Hi Jeff;
Would you convert your numbers to MPG?
Thanks;
Terry

Yeah, I caught that but I did not or do-not know how to convert. I thought he might or someone else here at GreenHybrid might know.

Re: GH Database VS EPA Estimates
Type it into the Google search box, just like this:
6 liters/100 km in mpg
and hit 'Search'. Cool, huh?

Your the Man;
6 liters/100km = 39.2024307 miles per gallon
That is Just so Very-Cool:
