Like so many others, I chickened out after my last fuel bar went out at 658.7 miles with display showing 56.3 MPG. I drove it like that for maybe 5 miles and decided it was time to feed the poor thing. And like so many others, I capped out after just 11.349 gallons on my ULEV, meaning I easily had another 110 miles left. Ugh, missed 700 this time.

BUT...and this makes up for it...because my tank was showing mistakenly low, my MPG were too! Calced by hand I ended up with 58.0 MPG, a new record for me!!! 700 will come next time, as I'm starting to really nail Pulse and Glide in a CVT HCH.

No offense, but some of you guys really need to take your car to an autocross and learn performance driving. When I read things like somebody rolling through a stop sign because they "can't stop" or having to slow down 20mph because they think 40psi makes their car dangerous, that's a serious problem. When I autocrossed my Civic HX many years ago, I would run 52psi in the fronts, 45psi in the rears. I won the street tire series in that configuration and won several regional events and one SCCA Divisional with my HX. Spend any time around autocrossers and people who make it their lives to know what it takes to make a car go, turn, slalom, and stop faster than anyone else and you'll very often see quite high tire pressures, especially for 14-15" wheels. Usually you need at least 17" wheels to get away with tire pressures under 40.

I don't understand what you are referencing in your post AZCivic. What post are you refering to?

I am going for a record too. I keep trying to get 25 gallons in my 05 HCH tank, but it keeps overflowing and puddling up on the ground and I am afraid it is a fire hazard. I try to pull up by a drain so the overflow, about 12 gallons, runs down the drain. Hoping it will get better, but no matter how much I try it keeps overflowing! I even tried to keep the motor running for the tank record, but that makes the indicated mileage even worse. It is really killing my manual computed mileage that is no where near what the MPG indicator shows on dash, off actually by about a half.

i have to disagree, i know my civic takes longer to stop since i raised its tires' pressure from 30 psi to 42 psi - i have to brake much earlier and much harder to stop in the same distance as before. While getting out of my friend's downhill driveway recently, i could not bring the car to a full stop at the bottom of his hill, and instead rolled out into the main road in the path of a (slowly) oncoming car. before i raised the tire pressure, i had no trouble stopping here.

Ahh. Yeah at 50lbs I have yet to have any problem brakeing.

One note is this person complains they have to brake much earlier to stop the car. I don't buy it but at anyrate taking longer to decelerate is much better for mileage.

Finally got my first 700 mile tank after 6 months and 12 tanks and man does it feel good. The last 20 miles were on 0 bars but it turned out I had more than a gallon left, so all was fine. Tank was my personal best for miles, gallons used, displayed MPG, and actual MPG. Thanks to all of you who've helped me reach numbers I would never have dreamed of a few months ago. Next up - 800!

Congrats. Its always tough getting to a 700 mile tank (I only have one) because you have to drive on zero bars most of the time to get it and its very scary and takes nerves..

That's FANTASTIC!
Remember posting this?

I had owned my 05 HCH just under a month when this thread began, had just filled my first tank and was halfway through a second, and I remember thinking to myself, "my god these people are nuts, how can they plug 700 miles out of this thing when I barely made 400?"
That was just a few short months ago.
You sure have come a long way!

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT
