Default HCH off road performance

Last weekend we took the HCH for another camping trip in the mountains to Colorado State Forest SP. This was the first time that I've tried driving the Civic on that grey category of roads that aren't really 4x4 roads but couldn't really be classified as gravel roads either. Overall the HCH performed like a champ! The low clearance had me a little sketched out a few times, but I only bottomed out once and it was slight.

The hardest bit was the road up to the Lake Agnes trailhead. It went from the campground at 9,936 feet up to around 10,600. It was STEEP, rocky, and I lost all SoC on the way up. We made it up though! Here is the car with the Nokhu Crags in the background.

A columbine we saw hiking up to the lake.

And one of the most magnificent lake views I've ever seen! This was taken about 8:00am and the lake was as still as glass.

I chickened out and bought gas in Ft. Collins before heading up the pass since I was on half a tank. That segment, in addition to 300 miles of commuting ended up at 62.4mpg. My aFCD is currently reporting 54.6mpg for the remaining 427 miles spent driving up, around, and back home--despite the strain of low speed "rock crawling" at 10,000 feet. Once again, I am thoroughly impressed with this car!

.

Commuter car, grocery getter, and summer road tripper--average 10k miles per year.

Winter road trips and ski trips, bad weather commuter and my wife's "daily" driver--expected average 4k miles per year.

Nice trip. Hows the HCH doing? No problems what so ever? Hybrid really save fuel right?

I love the car--it is the best car I've ever owned. If it just did ~60mpg on the highway or it just did 55mpg on my commute, I would be stoked, but I can't believe that it does so well at both of them. I definitely work at getting good mileage, but I find it a lot more fun (and rewarding) than my the "zooming in and out of traffic" style of driving I used to have.

Problems? I have a rattle in my "oh-shoot" bar which the dealer is going to take care of tomorrow for me, and my battery seems to recalibrate more often than average (there is an active thread on this on the HCH II board--it's a little annoying, but it's not a huge deal). I would still totally recommend it though!
