Does anyone know if Honda will add side curtain airbags to the 2005 HCH. Given the relative small size of the car, I'm inclined to wait and get the 2005 if it will have the side curtain airbags.

Hi AustinHybrid:

___Good question … With the 05 Corolla’s available w/ VSC, Traction Control, Side and Side curtains, ABS, EBD, and TPS, Honda will have to step up to the plate or lose sales on their regular Civic lineup. If the regular Civic receives the added safety systems, you can bet the Hybrid will receive them as well. No guarantee’s of course but I don’t see how Honda can not place Curtains in their Civic lineup starting in the 05 MY.

___Good Luck

Hi Steve:

___I remember reading something similar but it was 2006 possibly? For 2005, I only know the Honda Accord will have Front’s, Sides, and Side Curtains. I am not sure about the Civic.

Thanks for the prompt response on this issue. I'm gonna try to get a straight answer out of a dealer tomorrow. So far, one dealer says yes, another says no. Will talk to a third tomorrow.

OK folks, educate me. My 03 has side airbags. Are side curtain airbags different? Do they come down from the roof instead of from the side of the seat? And if they do, would the car then have one or the other, or both? Thanks.

MC

Side airbags are different than curtain. Side bags come from under the seat and go up the door. Curtain airbags from from the post on the right and left sides of the winshield. Then there's the regular front airbags, of course. You can have all three at once, as I do with my Prius.

While on airbags I'll mention if you have side or window bags you should not rest your arm on the door's armrest.
I believe this is stated in your manual but nobody reads them.

If you are sideswipped the airbag may save your life but break your arm if it is in the way.
