Honda Recalling Civic Hybrids for Electrical Defect
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070209/...n_honda_recall
Quote:
TOKYO - Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 45,335 Civic Hybrid sedans worldwide to repair an electrical defect that could stop the cars' engines, a company spokeswoman said Friday.
Japan's No. 2 automaker plans to recall 7,219 of the vehicles sold domestically and another 38,116 sold overseas, mostly in the United States, a Honda spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity, citing company policy.
Honda learned about the defective voltage converters — which could cause a short circuit that would stop the engine and prevent it from restarting — from overseas reports, the company said in documents filed Thursday with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Honda has received no reports of accidents related to the defect, the documents said. The affected vehicles were manufactured between September 2005 and September 2006, they said.

The XYL's '06 was made during that time, so I'll contact the local dealer ASAP.

Do they have a fix available yet? If yes, any idea what is involved in this fix?

Re: Honda Recalling Civic Hybrids for Electrical Defect
I took my car in for this recall. The fix is an installation of a DC cover. I don't know how this thing works and looks like.
As for my car, they didn't have the part in so I have wait another week.

Ralph- lmao! Great link.
I used to have a pet mouse who would go around and around in his wheel like he was training for the Olympics- very focused, very dedicated. He had a lot more coordination than poor little Tic (or Tac). All I can say is ....TWELVE turns!!?!

Re: Honda Recalling Civic Hybrids for Electrical Defect
Oddly enough, my sales rep at Honda said I wasn't affected. So, I figured I would check since honestly, who believes a sales guy anyways. Sure enough, I am one of the lucky Canadians who is part of the recall. This will be my first experience with Honda service for something more major than an oil change. I have high hopes!
