Anyone else with an '05 HCH get this sound...

While driving or coasting downhill at approximately 60-75mph a very loud humming from the engine compartment? It lasts for a few seconds (only while going downhill) and then leaves.

The dealer says it is that way in all of the '05's that they have compared it to.

You sure that's not the noise from the generator engaging to charge the battery? We've notice it but it's not a bad sounds assuming it's the generator.

This noise is quite loud. If on the cell phone, the other person hears it. It sounds like a restricted A/C compressor (even if A/C is on or not).

I would ask the dealer to let you try "another" hybrid to see if you hear it. I doubt that it is a "normal" sound. If your dealer says no, I'd take it to another dealer or call Honda zone office for help.

Our car "whines" when slowing down, but that's normal for the hybrid.

I have a manual 05 hch and I get no humming on hills or at high speeds. i don't get a loud hum when I shut the car off, but I would assume that is the fan inside, normal for every car I've been in.
