Congratas
I have an 04 HCH and am in California and am considering buying the 06 but don't want to pay over MSRP.

Mind if I ask what you paid and what state you are in?

I paid MSRP and I'm in San Diego. There was a big post on this subject a while ago... basically there are quite a few dealers offering for MSRP, though of course there are many (especially around SF and LA) that added absurd markup.

I hate to tell this story because it makes people feel bad

A co-worker here who had an 06 on order from a very smalltown (NC) dealer could never get the car here, because it was stuck in Baltimore at the port and they weren't going to send a truck down for just ONE car. So he started shopping around. Called up a dealer about 50 miles away from that one, and they had a silver/blue HCH on the lot, just waiting for somebody to buy it.

AND if he came in that day and picked it up, they'd cut $500 off the sticker for him.

So he called the other dealer, got his deposit back, and bought the other one, drove it to work on Monday with the extra $500 in his pocket from the deal (the only downside is that he has to take it back to have the accessories installed, because he bought the car on Saturday, and the parts dept had already closed for the day.

for $500 I'll tell you what dealer that was

Doesn't make me feel bad at all. I got what I wanted and I was willing to pay for it. I've frittered away more money on booze and (other things) than the $2k markup that I paid for my HCHII and I got the very first 06 Civic Hybrid in the O.C. And (BONUS!) it's now a Motor Trend Car of the Year.

Life is good -- and mileage is everything I hoped for (50mpg +/- a couple or 4 here and there).

Don
