My first 700 mile tank - GreenHybrid

700.8 to be exact

Indicated 58.2 MPG on my trip Odometer, and drove for about 20 miles after the low-fuel light went on.

I'm going to take a tip I got from buzz70 and easily be able to get 700 miles in the future by overfilling the tank:
"You're correct that the Honda spec says that the tank holds 13.2 gallons. But, if you fill slowly, you can actually put 14 to 15 gallons in the tank, maximizing your driving range.

I've actually never filled it all the way up the neck, but if I drive it 30 miles or so past the point where the low fuel indicator comes on, I can almost always put 14 gallons in it."

I've never tried that because in NJ we don't gas our own cars, but yesterday I did and managed to squeeze in about 13.5 gallons.

Congradulations on your 700 but be careful in overfilling.

I'm sure you only want to fill the tank but not the vapor canistor and connecting lines as well.

Personally, the first click-off and I stop.

Yes I believe there are good reasons to stop at the first click-off.

Also, I wish I had one of those bigger tanks.
I have an AT-PZEV, so my MPG is lower and my gas tank is about a gallon or two smaller.

i'm with georgia in not topping off the tank - the manufacturer's wrote that into the warranty booklet for a reason, even if it is trivial

granted, 700 miles in an AT-PZEV civic hybrid is great

i wish i could do that, but i'm happy with 518.2 miles (got gas today, after 2 weeks)

btw how often does everyone get gas? i know it depends on distance driven per day, but i'm just curious about the spectrum..i gas up every 10-15 days.

Myles, my fillups have averaged about 18 days apart. I'm going for my SECOND CONSECUTIVE 700 mile tank, after never having one before this. I'm at 668 right now and I can make 700 easy this time. Yes, the "please do not top off" rule is a good one.

what I might start doing, as the tank gets near the top is to put it on "trickle mode" and stop filling at that point.
BTW, I've had no issues since cramming all that fuel in, just 80 miles of driving without a downward blip on the gas gauge

I'm hopeful if the weather stays warm to get about 750 miles on this tank. I'm already tracking at better than 60 MPG overall (and its SO easy to do!)

lars do you have a 13.2 gallon tank or 11.8 gallon gas tank? i have the smaller tank

from your last tank's 53.8 mpg, you would need exactly 13.0 gallons of gas to make it to 700 miles, with 0.2 gallons remaining...so you must have the larger tank

(if you drove 700 miles on 11.8 gallons, you would need to attain an average of 59.3 mpg over the entire tank..and run the tank dry)

i really need to bring my average mpg up then if i am going to try for even a 600 mile range :X

i have 1.4 gallons of gas less than you to work with every tank (my tank is 89.4% the size of yours)

I'm with you Myles- I've got a pzev with a 11.8g tank too. I was thrilled to get my first 500 mile tank- forget about 700!!
I'm going to work on a 600 mile tank this summer- 600 miles/11 gallons means I need a 54.5mpg tank. do-able if it ever warms up here! I'm at 52.4 for this tank so far with about 100 miles to go (probably more like 50.5ish with guage discrepancy)- so not this tank.
I can't see why the pzev has a different size tank. the 2 engines are different, but even if they're physically different in size, or have different emmision equipment, that's all up front and the tank is in the back- so why change tanks?

ANYWAY- CONGRATS JOSH on your 700 mile tank. so how often are you going to the gas station?!!?

thank you . . . The HCH is primarily (75%) a commuting car for me, and my round trip distance is 80 miles per day . . . tack on an additional 100 miles per week and I'm driving 500 miles per week. So, if I can be consistent with this very high mileage (my target is an indicated 60 MPG per tank) I'll be filling up approximately every other week.
