Default New owner - 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid

Just dropping in to say hello. I purchased a 2003 Civic Hybrid with 95,000 miles on it. Attached is the MPG I received coming home with it. I've taken it last week on a 1200 mile roundtrip to Atlanta for work, and it did well. Looking for ways, and mods to further increase the MPG as my commute to my new job will be 160 miles every day. So, I'll start looking around the forum to see what's available. Great to be here. Looking forward to meeting members.

Should I expect better MPG numbers than 60? I haven't met anyone here locally to compare notes with. Just curious.

Thanks!

60 mpg is awesome!! I rarely get that good. My 2003 HCH has 220,000 miles on it, second battery, and I usually get around 48 to 50 mpg. So, what ever you are doing, keep it up.

60 mpg is really good. The main thing is to keep your tire pressures up (anything over 40 seems ideal), keep your speed down (anything over 60 starts to really hurt fuel economy) and stay in lean-burn as much as possible. I was hitting close to 60 on my 85 mile round trip commute but I decided to install the 17" wheels I had laying around and now I'm around 54.

I live in the Atlanta, Ga area and I've done pretty good over the last 260,000 miles. My signature reflects my hypermiling days.

Yeah, I used the acetone trick to go from 51 to 60MPG. I did it for many years in my CRX starting back in 2008. So far, it's made a good difference in this car as well. Had a CEL which showed a bad O2. Started back on the acetone, and it cleared up. It's a sliding scale though. If I use too much, the MPG drops. 1 to 1.5 Oz per 10 gallons seems to work well for me. NICE tank record. I think I can get there. But, I'm running 205/75/14's on the car now. Very big. It's drastically reducing the MPG. I need to switch back to 185/70's. I'm putting 800 miles a week on the car, so I coubt these yokohamas will last over a year. We'll see. Thanks for all the responses.

I'm using acetone too, when I'd get my HCH on city I'd get only ~29 MPG, I'd started using acetone and MPG increase to 35, if for any reason I did't put acetone MPG goes again to ~29... I'm using 3 oz (90ml) for every 10 gal added to fuel tank

I've heard so many conflicting things about using Acetone that my head is spinning. Mythbusters "busted" the acetone myth, but y'all are saying it works for you. I havent tried it yet, but it may be worth it if youcan get that much more out of it. Where do you buy 100% acetone from? Brand/size?
