Default Oil Change for HCH 2006

I just hit the 3200 mile mark on my HCH, and my Oil Life meter is only at 70%. I was just curious if I should be changing it every 5k miles or actually listen to the meter?

I am struggling with the same question.
I just called a Honda dealer.
They said follow the meter.

I just am nervous about leaving the same oil in a new car for 10,000 miles with all those floating metal particles.

Drive a hybrid.
Best tank 71.65 MPG.

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

Gentlemen,

Do not fear. Honda themselves advise (online and on the phone) to follow the meter unless you are in severe driving conditions.

With the 0W20 and low friction, plus Honda's history, I'd trust the meter.

The folks at Honda specifically said to keep the first batch of oil in because the additives are necessary for the first 10K or so.

Just changed my oil...Mileage was about 8K with 5% left. I change my Ody's oil according to the meter as well. Going strong at 41K with about 0.5 Qt useage between changes (about 6K miles in the Ody). Oil consumption has not changed since new. Both cars are primarily city (stop and go) driven about 75% of the time.

As others have said, stick with the meter. Synth oil lasts longer to begin with, and the filter should be catching any stray metal filings anyway.

Which brings up another point with me. I ALWAYS change the filter with every change.

I had 9000 miles and 10% left on the "meter". Right at 6 months.

I took it in mainly because I got tired of the light coming on everytime I started the car, and didn't want to reset it to 100% before the oil change. Its got to be one of the easiest cars to change the oil on, and will probably start doing it myself, once I got an idea on how the bottom panel came apart. Filter and plug and nearly right across the pan from each other.

My dealer told me to change oil when it reached about 15%. I am at 20% now so I will
be getting it changed in the next week or two.

Perry,

Just out of curiosity, if the dealer told you to have your oil changed at 95% would you do so?

Honda, which has to warranty the vehicle, says you can go to 0% before you need to change the oil. Why would you do otherwise?
