Default Open letter to 2006+ Gen 2 HCH owners....

Your cars are showing up in the database and some of you may be dissapointed in your mileage. Keep in mind that you all are brand new to your cars and perhaps more importantly that winter is on the way. All the other cars include summer miles which are always better than winter miles. Basically this is a bad time for you all to start keeping track of your mileage (guess how I know, (bought my HCH in October 2004)). In fact it is likely that your mileage might actually go down as it gets colder. The good news is that as it gets warmer next spring, and as you learn how to drive you cars for mileage better, your mileage will go way up come next summer. Hang in there! At 47.2 mpg you are already doing better than the gen 1 CVT (which is getting 45.2 mpg currently) . I'm betting you all will pass up the gen 1 MT (currently at 48.2 mpg) within a year.

Well said LakeDude - I concur. Absolutely correct on all counts.

I had this same discussion last year with some Hybrid Naysayers who loudly trumpeted how the Accord Hybrid was getting below-EPA numbers almost across the board when it came out in the cold winter too. New car + cold weather = lower MPG than normal...

Over the last month driving on Dallas highways, the morning temperature has dropped from 70F to 35F with a 5% drop in FE. For the 2006 HCH that may translate to a 2-3mpg difference on roads with no ice.

.

61.5mpg lifetime - 82mpg in recent months
