Default Press Release: K&N Air Filter for 03-05 HCH

Just Release today K&N has released an air filter for the 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. I thought that everyone would like to know. Here is the link: http://www.knfilters.com/news/news.aspx?ID=219
Also, they are still looking for 2006 HCH for reasearch and development. I posted a meassage about this in the past but a guess there were no takers.

No, there definitely was. I e-mailed, hell I still have the copy I sent to them. I went on the website and filled something out, but they never got back to me....bummer.

That is a bummer. I might try and call them this week and speak with the guy I originally spoke with. I have been so busy lately I haven't had the time, nor the time to read the posts on here.

Thanks for that update. I went ahead and ordered one. Checked at Autozone and they don't even have the ability to special order it yet. I had to go directly through the K&N website, couldn't of come at a better time though, I need a new filter AND I just moved on a dirt road ---- dusty.

Sounds like the K&N is perfect for you, Rigger. I doubt there will be any performance or fuel economy improvements with the K&N, but for those living in dusty areas, there's a definite economic incentive over the pricy stock air filters to get a reusable one like the K&N.

I'm not sure if the civic hybrid has a maf, but if it does, K&N filters have oil which gets drawn in with the air, deposits on the maf filament and causes driveability problems.

The K&N would be my last choice in a dusty area, you'll need to clean it very frequently and it will allow lots of dirt into your engine. Here's some pretty good "independent" documentation that K&Ns a bad choice.

Might be worth it if there was some FE benefit, but, as you said, there's not.

Thanks for the info,
I read the charts and this definately clears things up for me. I'll stick with the dealer filters to keep things like these simple

What do you mean by driveability problems with oil deposits on the Mass Air Flow sensor?

I have had numerous vehicles with K&N Air Filters/ FIPK and MAF and I have never had any driveability problems. In fact they have produced more power and some increased FE depending on the vehicle! My HCH is the first vehicle that I do not have at least a K&N filter because they don't make one for the '06 yet. Also, I have found that the K&N lasts longer in between washes, rather then having to replace. Meaning for example, with a paper air filter I might have to replace every 15,000 whereas with the K&N only 30,000 miles in between washes. I know there is a lot of hype out there for or against K&N filters or anyother type of performance products and the choice is yours. I just like to share the beneifts that I have recieved from continious use of a product.

K&N uses oil and cotton to catch the dust/dirt particles, when air is sucked through the filter, it is deposited on a little piece of wire that measures incoming air. This causes an inaccurate sensor voltage. Any vehicle that has a maf after the filter should oil their filter very sparingly, use electrical contact cleaner on their maf filament, or just reconsider their filter type. For carbs or speed density systems, they're great. I've had them on three vehicles.
