I fill up at two bars. I have filled up in the past at 0 bars. My thinking is that if the engine light isn't on don't worry about it. I don't think honda would turn on the engine light without it giving you enough warning to get to a gas station.

Someone should try an experiment and run it dry to so how low it can go. I think its bad to run it out of gas completely though.

When I bought mine a year ago the salesman told me DON'T run it out of gas. I'm trying to remember how he said it but something to the tune it can screw up some computer settings. Don't know if thats true but I try to fill up around 5 bars. Kevin

I know you can get a check engine light if you leave the gas cap off. Maybe if you run it out of gas, it will get all confused and throw a check engine light for that too. A lot of dealers will charge you $80 to scan and clear a check engine light.

The cel light will go off after 3 trips according to the dealer. Mine went off and it took 6 or so trips but it did go off.

Of course this presumes that the problem has cleared itself (tightening the gas cap in my case).

i fill up at 0-1 bars with the gas light on. usually when that happens, i still have 1 gallon remaining, which is plenty to get to the nearest gas station.

I had two bars when I departed for a short trip across town (down I35 in Austin) this evening. I drove the whole way home with zero bars and filled up at a service station a couple of blocks from la casa. I'm guessing it was about ten highway miles home on zero bars. That was my first tank on my two-week-old HCH, for what it's worth, so I was quite nervous :-)

This tank of gas is the best I have done. I'm averaging 48mpg, and currently have 545 miles on this tank of gas. I just go off the average the dash display gives me. I'm filling it up this afternoon. It is showing 1 bar, but I have a 48 mile drive one way to work, so I don't want to push it.

i wish california civic hybrids had the same 13.2 gallon tank that everybody else has. all of my tanks are just shy of 500 miles (except one, 503 miles) because the california version has a smaller 11.8 gallon tank instead, and i usually fill at or around 1 gallon remaining.

that and lean-burn. since i do lots of highway driving, the lack of the lean-burn on 2004 california hch's dissappoints me. i think this has something to do with emissions standards in california, and the reason why 2004 hch are labeled SULEV as opposed to the 2004 hch ULEV offered in other states that year.

nowadays though, 2005 california hchs are AT-PZEV rated. I'm not sure what the difference was between SULEV (Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) and AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle) though. Perhaps Honda wished to match the Prius' labeling, which was AT-PZEV since 2004. the salesman who sold me the car 10 months ago could not provide me with the reason.

btw, correct me if i'm wrong with any of this information. i'm pretty sure about the 11.8 gallon tank though in california models

I'm in NY and I have a 2005 at-psev too, it does have a 11.8g tank. ny has, or will be adopting ca emmission standards and they only sell the at-pzev version here. if you look on the epa site, it gets much better emission ratings than the 'lean-burn' engine. there are actually 2 different engine types, though I have been unable to find out anything more specific than that. my dealer didn't even know that!
I usually fill up at 2 bars and that's about 10g. havent' counted bars- I wonder if it's close to 1 bar = +/- 1/2 gallon?
would be cool to have a bigger tank and go for a 700 mile tank though.... I wonder why they gave the at-pzev a smaller tank?
