Saw 2006 Civic at dealer - comments/questions
Overall thought the new civic design is a tad more impressive than previous. I think the Hybrid version will look even nicer. The navigation/stereo system seemed fairly barebones - it did interperate verbal commands fairly well, altho we didn't have a list of commands it understands ("heater/air conditioner on/off did not work"), but "preset 1", "radio on/off", and "nearest (gas station)" were understood. The minijack auxilary input is in front of the shift gear. The multistage dashboard is nice, but there's concerned the steering wheel may block lower dashboard reading.. Saleperson said wheel needs to be adjusted...
First question: I put deposit for first shipment. Salesperson said first shipment (late sept/early oct) is made and from Japan and each shipment after is made and from USA. Is this true? And what are the implications?
Second question: I noticed there is only a PC Card slot behind the fold down nav screen. I thought there is a SD Card slot also? I plan on primarely using SD.
Also, no bluetooth?
thanks

I may be able to give you a solution to your 2nd question. There is an adapter that will let you use an SD card in the PC Card slot ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833156125 ).

Hi guys,
Just a quick question: the SD Card slot, is that like a Scan Disk memory card (like for a digital camera or something)? Also, how does that work with regards to the Nav. system? Do you get downloads and updates from the internet, then upload them to the car? Just curious. My current car is only as advanced as it's crank windows

I assume the SD card slot is used for mp3 files. Has nothing really to do with the nav system. It is just behind the nav system. This is what most cars with nav are doing.

Wonder if it will play mp3's that are on 4 gig DVD disk? And I wonder if one could use a SD card reader for music and such thru the ipod port?

Hass the Assist/Charge been combined into only ONE instrument, instead of the two separate displays that the HCH now has?

The real-time meter is still there, but on the higher location.

Re: Saw 2006 Civic at dealer - comments/questions
The 2006 Civic ICE-only is what the OP saw, not the hybrid. No one gets the hybrid before October 5th and frankly it seems very few people will have it even by then.
I have contacted a few dealers in my general area and found one with a couple of 2006 Civics in stock. I plan to drive over there later today and take a short test-drive to get a feel for the car, since the hybrid uses the same body and interior. I know I'm not going to like that front windshield but hopefully it won't be so bad. I'll reply here with my own observations later.

Re: Saw 2006 Civic at dealer - comments/questions
I talked to a dealer in Cleveland, OH about the new Hybrid. For what it's worth, he indicated the they will receive their first shipment of HCH's in Mid October. Interesting comment he made was if supply doesn't keep up with demand in the beginning of the year due to a rush, they will ship as many as they need from the Japanese factories. It will only take a few weeks to get their.
To order one, he said put down a few hundred bucks and you can order your colors and options. MSRP is price at this point. He had a couple of people for on the waiting list to recieve in October, but nobody yet for January.
I asked about if they had any 2005 HCH's. He indicated they are almost impossible to get now. They are all gone.

I don't believe ANY of the hybrids are made in the US. They are all produced at the Japanese factories. The US and Canadian Honda plants only produce the regular non-hybrid versions on the Civic. My understanding of why it takes longer before the hybrid gets here is the factories were converted at the same time. The NA factories are local, so the cars were available within weeks. The Japanese factories will likewise ship cars within weeks, but they ship them from the factory to a dock where they will sit on a ship for a week or two and then take another week to clear customs before getting to dealers.
