Yesterday I was parallel parking my car on the street.

The only empty parking space was the last one at the end of the block, so I didn't have to back in.
Driving forward, I turned hard right in front of the last parked car.
When my speed dropped the engine cut out, as expected.
Just at that moment the front of my car was almost to the curb so I needed to steer hard left.
But since the engine cut out the steering suddenly became VERY VERY stiff.
It was such a surprise that I almost lost control and drove up onto the curb. :o

I was alarmed that the electrical system is not beefy enough during auto stop to provide seamless power steering.

I recommend you all try this on purpose so you are not surprise when it happens.

I also recommend everyone with ABS brakes try them out in a safe place.
You get an alarming pumping feeling under your foot.
It feels like a blown out tire.

Drive a hybrid.
Best tank 71.65 MPG.

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

I think the elect. system does not provide power for the power steering, the ICE needs to be running. When coming to an area I know the ICE will only shut off for a sec. I turn off the econ. button for that purpose.

On certain parts of my commute @ 3:00AM I'll sometimes switch the car off and immediately boot back up. Engine is not running.
For the first ~2sec power assisted steering is not 100% then the "click" of a relay is heard under the dash somewhere and power steering assist is restored.
(The click also turns off the airbag warning at the same time)

I drive about a mile under this condition and approach a Left turn. Still only booted I make the turn and try to keep momentum for the next 1.5K feet of road to my subdivision.

After a brief restart for the base of a hill I'll shut down and reboot again.
Another 1Kft and I'll turn into my driveway, throught the gate and roll down into the parking area.
