Default Wheel Wells On HCH II ??

One of the few complaints I have of my '03 HCH is that there are no front wheel wells. There is nothing to protect the engine from the ravages (read salt and sand) of our great Canadian winters. I purchased the car this past summer and spend a two days cleaning up the rust in the engine compartment.
Does the HCH II have this protection? I am not sure what the engineers were thinking when they left it open to the elements.
My second concern is shared by many on this forum. That is the use of the FOB to lock the car. I always have my hands full of things when I am both arriving or leaving work. It would be so much easier to be able to lock the car with a door still open to get things. I would gladly pay the CAA for the few times I have locked the keys in a car the past 30 years.
Yes, just minor gripes, I really do love the car. I hope that the '06 has these "faults" fixed.

Don't know about the HCH II wheel wells, but you could probably find something online or go to a car audio/alarm shop and have them put in a device that will automaticaly lock your doors 30 seconds after you press your button.
