Default 92 mpg car?

http://www.fuelvaporcar.com/html/the_car.html

Noticed this today on yahoo's green page. Not sure if it was an old article.

Suprised by the fact this super efficient car is claimed to have sports car like performance still? And using just a honda engine and not something high tech?

Just thought I'd point it out, would love any other info anyone else might know about if this upcoming car is real. I'm guessing it has very light build mats and other things that could make it dangerous or impractical in the real world. Still it'd be nice to see honda or someone start offering small 2 seaters like this. I'm sure america would need some time to catch on. Detriot seems to think going back to 1970 bold styling is the answer to the future of auto's. Still I think a brand new Dodge Challenger driver might feel a tad depressed pulling up behind cars that get 10X his mpg

Default Re: 92 mpg car?

The Honda Insight already does most of this. The MT Insight uses 22:1 lean burn technology under light loads but is not SULEV as this claims to be. The MT Insight can easily achieve 90-100+ mpg highway depending on conditions, terrain, and driving style, etc. - even I can do it. The "ale" looks to have less interior room than an Insight but probably has more performance (though the Insight is no slouch).

This fuel vapor thing is interesting because ALL gas engines ingnite fuel as a vapor, not as a liquid - or at least TRY to. Perhaps they vaporize the fuel before it gets to the engine and deliver it as a gas? But do they then lose the heat of vaporization, and is that important in cooling the cylinders?

Default Re: 92 mpg car?

That looks like a modern version of the old Messerschmitt KR-175/KR-200 of the mid 1950s through the mid 1960s. Even back then with there two stroke engines they could do 60 to 90 MPG. I think if I was going to compete for the X prize I would use the 1000cc hybrid Insight sip sip engine instead of a 1500cc zoom zoom engine. Just today I logged a 100+ MPG tank on my stock Insight. A car like the "ale" with Insight power ought to be able to do much better then a stock Insight.....Louis
