Smile A123Systems BREM survey

Hybrid owners, We are currently assessing a number of factors before our market launch of the Hymotion L5 BREM in early 2008. If possible, can anyone provide important information that will help us bring as many L5 packs to market as soon as possible? Some specific observations would include: Where do you live? What kind of installer do you want? What is the most important aspect of a PHEV? What model of car do you own? other information? Thank you

What is a "Hymotion L5 BREM?"

There is not enough information to answer these questions.

The BREM or Battery Range Extender Module is the extra or secondary pack that can extend the range of the Prius and other hybrid models that is installed in the trunk by removing the spare tire. This is the pack that google recently announced it was going to install in its fleet of hybrids to make it a plug-in hybrid. The Hymotion Prius with the L5 BREM pack is getting over 100 mpg in testing in Toronto.

Yes I want one. It has to be affordable. I live in San Diego and would like to have a local provider/installer. A self-install kit would be fine for some of us, but in general it is probably not a wise idea, IMO.
2007 Prius.

Yes, very much interested, for the right price. (Though I'll gladly be your media man if you give me a good price.)

Warren, Michigan, just North of Detroit.

What kind of installer do you want?
Someone else to do it. Either a local provider or a drive out to have it installed.

What is the most important aspect of a PHEV?
Short range commuting (Less than 25 miles round trip) using zero or next to zero gasoline. (Preferably being able to go 0-45 MPH for those 25 miles.)

2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, AWD.

jrsabados - I applaude you and A123 systems for your technology development activities.

Location: Connecticut
Vehicle: '07 Prius
Installer Preference: Qualified, Trustworthy, Workmanship Warranty
Important PHEV Aspects:
1. System Safety
2. System Cost
I would also be interested in the following performance metrics for the system.
3. Prius gas mileage under "best case" conditions, with a description of what those conditions are.
4. Prius gas mileage under "normal" driving conditions (say 50/50 - highway/city)
5. Energy required from electrical source per charge.
6. Efficiency of system (Energy delivered to propulsion system per charge/Energy acquired from source per charge)
7. Life (# of charge cycles) of batteries.
8. EOL indicators/symptoms
9. Storage space lost to batteries.
10 Weight added to vehicle due to batteries.

This is all I could think of for now.

I look forward to your product offering.

I LOVE my PRIUS.
I HATE that it still gets all of its energy from GASOLINE.

Hi,

Actually the only thing I'm looking for is a traction battery 'tickle charger' that will counter the self-discharge of NiMH batteries. I would like it integrated with a block and transaxle heaters with thermostat control that will apply only enough heat to minimize warm-up energy losses. It will also know that during my normal sleep periods the block and transaxle heat can float. It will disconnect from the grid without a fault if someone forgets to unplug it on the first trip.

I have no interest in additional batteries, just peak energy service from the ones I have.
