Article about NIMH battery life
I found this article on how long NIMH batteries should last (most current Hybrids use them). Looks encouraging!

Re: Article about NIMH battery life
At the Dearborn FEH Event, Ford said they've yet to have a single battery fail on them in the extreme testing labs, where they're constantly and purposefully trying to kill the battery in enviroments and situations far beyond what any of us put them through. That was rather good to hear.

The label "Enthusiast" by Mr. HS' name is highly misleading.
Jason spent a lot of time and money to build this site....for people to join and make their every post to throw brickbats at the core theme of hybrids?
Manners in cyberspace should be no different than in person. I'm at a loss to know of a Western nation that sactions its citizens to make an extended protest at a place and disrupt their activities....can't think of one. Last I checked, a group of people have the right to associate without trolling, both in person and cyberspace.
I too, am using my right to express - but this topic is tiring.
Back to hybrid battery life, a poll here indicated that 89% have not had a hybrid battery replacement. Mine went out at 94,000 but stuff like transmissions can go out too. I'm not bothered hearing hybrid battery packs are imperfect, but I'd prefer hearing it from a source that is not so disgruntled as Mr. HS.

Last I checked, the United States of America sactions extended protest. I think it is called the First Amendment?
With all do respect Mr Delta Flyer, In my last few posts you have trolled me numerous times. With Direct Attacks which were not called for, Now THAT is trolling. Simply adding my opinions, albiet an opposing one, is called debate If you can't handle depate, or others opinions then may I suggest you
1) Turn of your computer and stop reading my posts
2) Denounce your U.S. Citizenship
3) Move to a communist country such as China or North Korea whos views may be more inline with your own!
Every time you advocate for my censorship Delta Flyer I am going to reply with a quote Today this one couldn't be more appropriate for what i am trying to convey to you
The fact is that censorship always defeats its own purpose, for it creates, in the end, the kind of society that is incapable of exercising real discretion. ~Henry Steele Commager

Knock it off. Delta Flyer has given you plenty of respect and you seem to be picking at him looking for a fight. A lot of posts have been provoking. Delta Flyer has been on this site for a long time without any problems. You are realativly new so you might want to step back edit your posts more to prevent what some are seeing as flame baiting.

Re: Article about NIMH battery life
One of the articles I read in a highly technical battery forum, was that newer battery packs will degrade gracefully.
What does it mean? Since each individual cell is very low voltage (from 1.25 fully charged to 0.9 volt discharged, typically 1.1 volts under load) it takes hundreds of cells in series to achieve the voltage required by the battery pack. The keyword here is in series..... just like your christmas tree lights...all it takes is a single burnt out bulb, for the string to become useless. Same with series battery packs... a single defective cell renders the pack useless.
So what battery manufacturers are researching is into ways to find out the cell that has gone dead, and just bypass it completely. The voltage loss is usually quite low, and the pack can tolerate a few individual cell failures before being rendered useless.
Now we are talking 150,000+ miles battery packs.

Das Boot/Das Battery
I just thought of a realistic addition to the movie Das Boot (about a WWII German sub returning safely against overwhelming odds). It had to be a concern over sixty years ago...
U-Boat sinking to almost hull-crushing depth
Mine Kaptain - no more depth charges! but....

Re: Article about NIMH battery life
Well, this has been very... intersting.
I've had my HCH for two weeks, and just joined the forum recently. This was my first new thread post. Had no idea it would stir up so much emotion!!
And all before my first fill-up!!
All kidding aside, after posting it I did consider that the article would be small consolation for someone who has had to have the battery pack replaced, and I have read that the early Insights were more prone to packs going bad than the later models. And, of course, I may get stung also. But as D.F. points out, any component is open to failure under the right set of circumstances, so I'm going to go by the tests and hope mine is average. If I get 160,000 out of my pack I won't be disappointed.
