Default Battery Replacement

I just wanted to get an idea about how long the hybrid battery packs last and how many people have had them replaced and if it was covered under warranty. A few people at work were interest in buying hybrids and this was a question they asked me...I also would like to know.

You are aware that all hybrid components are covered for 8 years/100,000 Miles, and in some states, 10/150,000, right?

To my knowledge, no battery pack has failed that wasn't in a major accident or similar incident.

The engineers at the Ford Escape extreme testing labs ran them continuously in environments and conditions far beyond what any real person would put them through for years and still haven't had a battery pack fail on them.

Default Different Warranties

Excellent poll question and setup!

Keep in mind that warranties are different.

The hybrid battery warranty for my 2000 Honda Insight was 8 years/80,000. Don't know if Honda has upgraded that. Again, my milage at the time of battery failure was 93,693 miles.

This would be a good place to mention other manufactuers' warranties. Is Toyota 10 year/100,000 miles?

My friend has a 2004 HCH1.
She had hers replaced but she doesn't visit here.
So I voted for her.

Hope that is okay.

Drive a hybrid.
Best tank 71.65 MPG.

Before this car I spent two years learning hypermiling on my 2004 HCH1.

No Problem! Thanks! Do you know how many mile she had on the car or if it was replaced under warranty?

Honda's IMA hybrid components are for 8 years/80,000 in my state. Just would be nice to see how many people have had them replaced as for most hybrid's on the road it is too early to know how long the battery will really last.

Along with that, anyone how has had a replacement, please share any info regarding the situation behind the battery replacement.

I'm guessing she had about 11,000 miles on the car so it was under warranty in California.

I think they told her that the 10 yr/150,000 mile battery warranty starts over for her new battery.

...but the battery is pro-rated, so only 100% covered for first 3 years. check your manual for all the details, but by the 8th year, Honda only kicks in 5% and you need to pay the otehr 95%

Ouch!! Well, its better than nothing, I'd rather have that 5% in my pocket rather than Honda's!
