Re: Battery Replacement
You know, I was perusing the warranty booklet yet again yesterday, and ran across the 'replacement battery' warranty page, and the 'Emissions' warranty items in the back.
I do believe that the 'replacement warranty' page is for a replacement 12V storage battery, should you get a replacement through the dealer. But given that the listed battery for Civic Hybrids of previous years is a standard 51R (as 'standard' as reversed + and - terminals are), there's no reason you would have to go to the Honda dealer when your 12V goes south.
The IMA battery (and most of the rest of the IMA components, especially the big ones like the MCM and BCM) is (still) warranted for 8/80, just as prior IMA-equipped cars have been. If you live in one of the 'clean' states, then I think your warranty increases to 10/150 on the IMA battery, and 15/150 on the other components.
I will still call Torrance to clarify / confirm this, but after a second (ok, third reading through the book, I'm standing by what I'm writing here.
However, a brickbat to Honda for not being more clear on this, especially in the sales brochure.

Re: Battery Replacement
That's also how I understand the standard warranty. I just called Honda to clear up the difference between the coverage for the 12V battery versus the IMA battery. And yes I wish they spelled this out a little better in their printed materials.

Re: Battery Replacement
Well... At 92k, the IMA battery in my HCH is still fine, although I just replaced the regular 12v battery. Of course, the little battery was only $79.

Can you reply with what you experienced when the 12v battery was starting to fail and finally bit the dust ?
I've never read anything about this experience in an IMA-equipped car, and was wondering what to look for, since the 144v / 158v battery normally starts the car, and the IMA electronics serve as the charging system for both batteries. Would be nice to know what to expect down the road when the 12v lead-acid battery fails to hold charge. And thanks

Re: Battery Replacement
GreenandBlue,
I started the speculation that if a 12-volt battery goes dead and left for long, it will cause the hybrid battery pack to go completely dead. This occurred to my Insight a couple of years ago, which is now awaiting a replacement battery pack.

Re: Battery Replacement
I concur with Delta Flyer, If the 12V goes bad it will drain the pack as it tries to keep the 12V charged. If the 12v dies it means the computer won't be getting any power so you won't be able to start the car regardless of the state of charge of the pack.

Re: Battery Replacement
To both Delta Flyer and Prius Guy 04, for your battery replacement's that were not covered under warranty how much was the cost to replace the Hybrid battery?

Re: Battery Replacement
Lute Riley Honda in Richardson Texas quote $6,400 parts and labor to replace the battery pack, BCM unit, MCM unit. My warranty was good to 80,000miles/8 years. I was just shy of 94,000 miles after 5.5 years. I heard that Honda has been pretty good about practacticing good will in these circumstances.

Adam~
I have a friend that had his battery replaced under warrenty.
It took 3 dys to get the new battery in (was not in stock)
He figured it would have cost him $4500 for the replacement
Again his car was under the warr. and the dealer patted him on the back handed him the keys and tol him to have a nice day & he did not pay a dime for the work.
He has the same warr I have, 3/36,000 mile warr covering mechanical side ( i got the 7/75,000 extended coverage) standard 8/100,000 mile warr on the entire electrical side of the car (excluding the standard 12v battery)
I hope that helps
