Candid Camera - Again
I went to a different gym this afternoon and made a find.

My Honda Insight behind a Smart Car from Toronto, Canada ( www.smartcar.ca) for comparision. Daimler/Chrysler is supposed to decide soon if they sell it in America.

Rear view

Side view

Rear side view

Front view I could not resist My Insight was initially parked next to the Daimler/Chrysler vehicle I like the least.

Inside view - is that navigation on top of the dash?

Cross between an AMC pacer and a GEO metro? <grins>
Nice urban buggy, a "goin' for groceries" car. But do they have to wear a helmet? You'd expect to see a bumper sticker, "My Other Car is a Goldwing."

Re: Candid Camera - Again
Thats a satilite reciever on the dash, cute car I thought it was the 08 civic or insight... LMAO (poke, poke) <j/k> Probibly a (sirius star mate reciever)
It's really a neat car the smart.. There is another one that is all electric that I have been seeing around here, cruising down the road at 40mph it was geo ? no gocar? no , darn it I forgot the name it looks like a golf cart but is street legal..,
Anyway whats the price tag on the smart? 9-10k? This car is very safe I wathched the crash test at 50 miles per hour the driver would stagger away!
I can just see it now, some extremely obese woman will buy one as it is cheap, then the saying will come true... "When she sits around the car She really sits around the car"... LoL
In other words it will look as though they built the car around them.

There was a video making its way around the net of a crash test of a Smart ForTwo at 70mph into a concrete barrier. Very little intrusion into the cabin. The structure is extremely strong for its size.

Re: Candid Camera - Again
They're neat little things. Very agile, reliable, and tiny. They're also sturdy like a brick. Or so I've heard when I'm in Toronto. I wonder if they do (and it seems they will) come to the US, if it'll be Gasoline or Diesel, or both.
I'm more curious about the MPGs. I haven't seen many user feedbacks on it. I've heard around 25 KPL (KM per Litre) from two people, and that seems to be it. (I have no idea what that is MPGs, and don't feel like doing the conversion, I'm sure someone like Sledge will do that for me. )
Would I ever own one? No, but I wouldn't condemn anyone who did.

Re: Candid Camera - Again
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think the Smart car is cute. You guys don't see it; maybe it's a girl thing. (am I the only girl on this thread?) I've heard that the new Bug, for instance, is supposedly a 'girl car' and mostly marketed to women. This could be like that. Anyone know the demographic breakdowns for people who own Bugs or MiniCoopers? Or was the friend who told me this a nut? Just because a car is little... but then, like many women, I'm a little person. I don't need all that space that most cars have, and it seems like a waste to have a particularly huge, hulking piece of metal just to move little me from place to place- so perhaps, if the box on wheels that gets me where I'm going is little, there's some appeal there. The mileage Pravus Prime reports and Sledge translates is pretty darn good, too!

Not Everybody's Car but Hope It Finds a Niche
I hope there will be a significant market for this car. It's definitely not for everybody, but I have a favorable impression with it.
leahbeatle reminds me about that Frenchman that came to Detroit to design SUV in the Book The High & Mighty. He was obsessed with the sexuality of a vehicle - big hulking vehicle - powerful, protective, good. Not everybody buys into that Neatherthal mentality of choosing vehicles. Hopefully, many will buy Smart cars, just like the Prius, Civic, and other fuel-efficient vehicles.
