Chrysler Desperate?
A LIFETIME powertrain warranty? And if they"ll back their crappy cars like this (and GM does 100K), why does Toyota (who really has nothing to lose) only back their gas-powertrains for only 36K?!?!?! I've alway thought the Toyota basic warranty sucked, but it is getting worse compared to the rest of the market.....Hyundai, GM, VW, and now CHRYSLER of all companies..........

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
I bought a Chrysler Eagle Vision new in 1996. One of the best cars I ever owned. A few years ago my mom needed a car so I gave it to her and she now has 88k on it (she doesn't drive much). It still runs great and every time I get a chance to drive it, I'm awed once again.
Anyway, last week her air conditioner went out. She went to the Chrysler dealer to have it repaired and they informed her that they no longer work on any of their cars that are over 10 years old.
Me buy another Chrysler/Dodge? I think not.

Oh, and I missed my point. <g>
The warranty is only as good as the willingness of the manufacturer to back it.

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
That warranty (like Kia's warranty) is non-transferable and only applicable to the first owner.
Mods: EV mod, VVT-i emblem, sport pedals, OEM cargo mat, JDM Prius interior footwell lighting, Sylvania Silverstars 9003ST, DICE iPod kit, OEM all-weather mats, TomTom ONE v2, LED licence plate lights.

Exactly. But Toyotas have such a low failure rate, they could just SAY they have it- even though none of us would have to use it.....and the few that DO use it would be sold for life, and would convince others to come to the good side.

Ahhh, if only people could realize that the "80k, 100k miles warranty, etc", is pure marketing to get you to buy their low priced vehicles and then you end up in the dealership at least once a month (might be ideal for those who do not mind to frequent delarer visits for repairs...)

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
"Chrysler Desperate"???
Is that the model name of their new mini van?
I'm old enough to remember Lee Iacocca and his unprecedented 7/70 factory warranty. It was the early 80's... enough said. By the mid-80's the Jeep line alone nearly killed Chrysler and they literally STOPPED honoring the warranty. They... just... stopped. Just like that.
Now it's a whole NEW generation! WTH, it worked before.
Agnosto is right.

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
First of all did we forget about 100k mile (150k in some states) warranty on hybrid components? Also my warranty booklet says 60k miles/60 months warranty on powertrain, restraint system and 60 months unlimited miles for corrosion. So where did you guys get 36k for your TCH? That's basic covering everything else. I think the whole trend started with Kia and Hyundai, they had such bad reputation for quality that people were afraid to buy them, especially that they were new car makers on US market and everybody still remembered fiasco with Yugo. Anyhow, assuming that average Chrysler owner keeps his car for about 5 years, that when you sell the car the warranty turns into standard 36k/3 yr warranty for the new owner and that you need to inspect the car within 60 days every 5 year anniversary or you loose the warranty, I would imagine very few people actually would be taking advantage of such warranty and they better, otherwise it could bankrupt the company if all of the sudden people decided to keep their cars forever. And yes, Chrysler is in a bad shape, but this could be their final nail in the coffin. It could bring a lot of very high mileage driving customers to them and it could cost Chrysler a lot of money to keep fixing those cars especially in pick up truck and similar business used vehicles. It will be interesting to see what comes out of it, if I had some let's say contracting business and drove 100k a year I would probably buy such car and keep on running it until it falls totally apart, with free powertrain repairs, everything else would be inexpensive enough to fix to keep the truck running forever.

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
Pete, this lifetime warranty is only applicable to the FIRST owner. Second hand (and beyond) owners don't benefit from it.

Re: Chrysler Desperate?
I just recently bought my TCH and the dealer I got it from does offer a free Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. This is not transferable though. I wonder if other Toyota dealers are starting this? I know in my area the other 2 dealers do not, I was told by my sales person that their dealer is the only one authorized by Toyota to offer it in my area...I wonder if that is true.
