Default Columbus Day, Hybrid Rally, Kentucky?

Hi folks,

I'm just asking if there is any interested in an October 7-8, 2007, Georgetown Kentucky, hybrid rally?

BACKGROUND

The Toyota Georgetown Kentucky plant has tours on Monday, Columbus Day, and a dozen of us visited the plant last year. A holiday weekend with off-season rates, it is an affordable weekender trip. For me, it was an easy drive, sleep-over and then drive home after the tour. Fall weather, we hit on a rain day but the drive up was drop-dead gorgeous through the mountains from Knoxville.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE

Sunday afternoon we'll have a hybrid car rally. It will include:
  1. static displays
  2. group dinner
  3. after dinner papers and 'birds of a feather' sessions
Monday day, we'll have two factory tour groups: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We'll also try to have more 'birds of a feather' discussions and invite the plant and local university engineering school folks to join us. Static car displays will continue in the parking lot. We'll make arrangements to have papers copied and shared for reproduction cost. There will be a 'tanks thanks' poster board for the fill-up receipt and miles into Georgetown.

DISTANCES

Kansas City - 600 miles
Madison WI - 510 miles
Washington DC - 550 miles
Tallahassee FL - 580 miles
Little Rock AR - 570 miles

ORGANIZER(S)

Bob Wilson - <tbd depending upon poll results and helpers>

I need to know there will be enough folks coming to be worth the effort. Last year was fun but I was mostly interested in the plant tour. This year, I'd be more interested in the rally. But if there is no real interest, it doesn't make sense to waste time.

You guessed right, the 'end of September" works. This is just a feasibility poll to find out if there is enough interest. If by the end of this poll, late July, it makes sense to do it, we'll put together a better package:

1) improved schedule
2) hotel/motel numbers and addresses
3) paper guidelines
4) handling the background, logistics and coordination tasks

Thanks,
Bob Wilson

Sounds like it could be a fun event and we would like to attend if it gets setup.
Look at http://www.cherryblossomgolf.com/index.html for a golf idea while there- Emory

Hi,

I forgot to mention that I'd like to see at least 10 "Making reservations" or "Won't know until September" votes. Anything less would not be a good use of time.

If you participate in other forums that may have an interest in this event, feel free to share the note and the URL for the poll. I've posted this note at PriusChat.com and "Prius_Technical_Stuff," the groups I normally hang out in. No doubt there are others.

Will there be a bunch of charts that don't make any sense to me, possibly printed poster size??

Just kidding with you Bob

Sounds like a good idea but that's a busy time of year for me. Good luck!

I don't have a hybrid, so I couldn't go to that event, but the Georgetown Camry plant is really cool. You can tour it for free and see the first Camry ever produced their in the visitor center.

Looks like this is only 3 hours from me, so I may be interested. Let me work on the fiancee awhile and see if I can interest him! :-)

If we do the two-day program, the tours will be on Monday. I'll probably schedule a morning and afternoon tour groups. The time in between will be when we can do some papers, talks and maybe an informal show in the parking lot.
