Hi Johanerlandsson:

NOx output of .125 g/km w/ 1 Km/.6213 miles = .2 g/mile
PM output of .005 g/km or 1 KM/.6213 miles = .008 g/mile

CARB’s LEV-2 at 50K/120K miles

HC: .015/.018
NOx: .05/.07
PM: unmeasurable/.01

___This D-CAT fails the US’ upcoming lowest NOx emissions spec by over 4X’s and barely beats the 120K PM limit, not the 50K one. Here in the states, Euro IV allows your car to be streetable only in the non-clean fuel states today. Euro V won’t allow a new car to be streetable tomorrow.

Euro V

HC: .065 g/mi
NOx: .128 g/mi
PM: .016 g/m

___I read an article yesterday about an Avensis D-CAT test emissions failure at just 8,000 Km and the Europeans were pissed and pleased at the same time? I could not find it this morning but I will keep my eye open for it.

___Good Luck

still pretty clean overall .

add some hybrid electric assist to that D-CAT and it will be that much cleaner in output.

looks promising lots of torque and clean too. Oh ya and Biodiesel is a renewable fuel to run in the diesels. I wonder how much harmfull emissions are produced when making petro based gasoline or #2 diesel ???

OK Wayne, I've decided to finally learn these emission standards. Can you please complete the list below (in g/km, sorry):

EU/Euro-4 Gas,2005
CO 1.00
HC 0.10
HC+NOx -
NOx 0.08
PM infinite

EU/Euro-4 Diesel,2005
CO 0.50
HC -
HC+NOx 0.30
NOx 0.25
PM 0.025

USA LEV-2
CO
HC 0.01
HC+NOx
NOx 0.04
PM 0.006

What is LEV-2? When was it taken in use? Where did you get the Euro 5 figures from? Is it the diesel or gasoline standard (I know it makes no sense to have two standards)?

I also saw that the German car industry attacked the new Toyota Diesel. Not the same as Europeans... :-)

Hi Johanerlandsson:

___I won’t convert g/mi back to g/Km as it is a simple multiplication.

___In terms of LEV-2, it is CARB’s own vs. Tier II/Bin which is the new Federal std.’s. The following should get you started on LEV-2 and Tier II:

http://www.cleanair.org/Transportati...nCars/lev2.pdf

___Here are some Euro III/IV/V specs …

http://www.emitec.com/?lang=&tab=1&d...ng=en?lang=en?

___As you can see, the new LEV-2 program really kicks the auto manufacturers in the shorts. If you have seen the new EPA ratings in the last 3 days, they have completely thrown out their old sets and the new ones are discouraging but much more factual to say the least. The following will get you started as to what the EPA is doing in terms of rating automobiles today vs. a week ago …

http://www.epa.gov/autoemissions/rating.htm

___Finally, do you have a link to the Avensis failure? I spent about 15 minutes looking for it last night and did not come across it. I want to bookmark that one

Thanks Wayne for all this information!

What is the status right now between LEV-2 and TierII/Bin? When will states have to decide on which standard to use?

It is hard to compare, I tried to make graphs to make it more clear.

I haven't been able to find information in english about the "German attack", sorry.

iboomalot,

Yes, that is what this web page tells me anyway:

http://www.dieselnet.com/standards/eu/ld.html

I should remove the EU gasoline bars for PM (but I left the spreadsheet at work). There, now you know what I do at work...

This morning my wife & I got stuck driving behind a newish Ford F150 diesel truck. On my way to the doctor with fluish feelings I couldn't even open my eyes for the sting and it seemed like my throat was swelling shut.

I'm not sure if that truck qualified as a clean diesel or not.

Hi Johanerlandsson:

___The Emitec site I attempted to link above cannot be linked properly for some reason? I am attaching a small screen shot of just passenger vehicles emissions specs for you although your link is more detailed without Euro V proposals. If you find a more up to date site, please pass it along.

___In the states, Tier II/Bin 5 will be the minimum as this is the federal standard. LEV-II is the next generation CARB (California Air Resources Board) proposal and will be in effect in CA. as well as some of the other states in the not-to-distant future.

___I will attach a screenshot as to the breakdown of LEV-2 although it is in g/mile, not km in the next post. Just multiply by .621 for the conversion to g/km.

___Good Luck
