Do You Typically Keep a Vehicle 5 yrs. AND 100,000 miles?

I figure most people need to own a vehicle at least that long to payback the hybrid premium...

I got rid of my 2k1 Civic with 5 yrs and 55000 miles on the clock. I have no idea when the HCH will go. Depends on how nice the next Prius/HCH will be

A leasing commercial suggested that the people that will answer yes in this poll are in the minority - maybe 20%. I want to see if the results compare with that claim.

Just picked up my Highlander yesterday. But the answer is yes. My last two vehicles went at 7 years and 120K and 9 years and 101K.

I always keep my vehicles until it is not economical to keep them going in a safe and reliable condition. My last car was a '94 Dodge Spirit that I kept until 160K miles. Other than oil changes and a timing belt I did myself it was a great car.

I hope to drive my HCH for at least 300K.

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

If I like the vehicle, I'll keep it a couple of years past the loan payoff. My last honda was a 1992 Accord MT with 254,000 miles. Donated it in 2003.

I follow HG2004's logic - when I start pouring money into a vehicle or when I no longer trust it, it's time to get rid of it.

The last vehicle I drove before the Insight was a '98 Dakota pickup with 105,000 miles on it. Transmission failed at 56,000. Rebuilt the tranny and kept going. It had started shifting funny when I got rid of it.

Had a '90 Chevy 454SS pickup before that. It was hard on rear tires and pinion gear bearings. 9-10 MPG...at best. Didn't matter how you drove it.

Had two RX-7's, a '87 and a '90, they both went past 130,000 miles. Fun cars.

The wife's Acura TL is a '99 with close to 85,000 miles and it's still going strong. She wants a Prius, but the TL is a keeper.

Regards,

I had my last car - an '89 Ranger - for sixteen years before maintenence became more that the pro rata cost of a new vehicle. It drove through Motown's salty winters, hauled heavy loads, and kept going and going.

I hope for the same from my FEH. I have good vibes about it, but only time will tell for sure.

Every car I have owned I kept for more than 5 years except for one. That was a 1971 Vega. Most of the cars made it ten years.

Most of cars I have owned were at or over the 100,000 Mile mark as well. Again the 1971 Vega was the major exception.
