Re: Do You Typically Keep a Vehicle 5 yrs. AND 100,000 miles?
except for the wonderful CRV that i really missed on the way to work today, i would say yes.
my 1985 accord, first new car i ever bought alone, 8 years, 150,000 miles
replace by my 1993 civic, i drove for 8 years, 130,000. hubby has been driving it for almost 5 years and it must be close to 200,000. he thinks the radiator is rusting....
1998 subaru forester, bought in 2001. owned until 2004, 135,000 miles. i got rid of it because it quit being dependable.
2004 CRV, put on 25,000 in one year. if gas was still $1/gal, i would probably have kept it.
bought my 2005 HCH last september, and can see myself driving it until the doors fall off.

Well;
THERE IS ALWAYS GOTTA BE ONE TO BE DIFFERENT.
I have not had any Vehicle (Wife-Excluded) for more than say maybe 9-12 Months. When I was Younger I traded them Faster than the Insurance Company could transfer Coverage to the New one. I guess back then I was trading like every 3-6 Months and the 6-Months would be the far side. So, I would tell or list the different vehicles that I went through. The problem is I did not keep a list and now I could not remember all the different ones. I had Fun with them and enjoyed everyone of them and Moved right on to the next with No-Hesitation.
It was Kind like Dating: Next:
Now I have calmed down and just plain have gotten tired of fooling around with the dealers and have a HCH ll on order.
I plain on just Driving and Driving and Driving and Driving and Etc. for a very long time.

I like my new vehicles, too. A '93 Saturn (130,000), my wife's '93 Accord (104,000 mi, that one isn't new, she got it used), and '93 Santana (tandem bicycle. Actually, that was used, too). All the other vehicles (bikes) are old.
Goal is 200,000 miles for the Saturn, but I'm only accumulating 6,000 miles per year, almost all of which are discretionary miles (ski trips). I may have to give up early, while manual '05 HCH's are still available.
Hybrids: '00 Insight, had an '03 HCH for 41k miles

Terry! You're my long lost twin! My wife used to call it "The Six Month Itch". I generally would start cruising the car lots every six months. That way I would have a new car once a year and my wife would have a new car once a year. That doesn't include all the old "fixeruppers" I got inbetween. I always have had to have something to tinker with. Since my wife and I have been together we've had around maybe 60-70 cars - probably much more - I never counted them.
Right now to curb my hunger I picked up a little Go-Ped scooter. My wife didn't mind it until she found out I could spend THOUSANDS of $$$ to make it do 40-50 mph. Essentialy it's a skateboard with bigger tires and an engine. A blast to ride but I do have a need for speed in the most dangerous way and I try to keep it off the streets now (for FE purposes as well as safety of others). She doesn't care for it much now (she hasn't even see me do the jumps yet )

Re: Do You Typically Keep a Vehicle 5 yrs. AND 100,000 miles?
We owned my previous car (a 95 civic) for 5 or 6 years so far (we still have it), I drove it for 2-3 years. It had about 90k on it when we got it??? and it's at atleast 180 now... though the odometer was broken for a few months so it's got a few thousand miles more than the odometer says.
I definetly plan on keeping my HCH for a long time.
Re: Do You Typically Keep a Vehicle 5 yrs. AND 100,000 miles?
My current car (92 Honda Civic hatch) is 14 years old with over 400,000 miles and is still going strong. I am still waiting for a new car to come along that will match its combination of fuel economy (over 50MPG), sports car handling, 10 sec 0-60MPH time, and cargo capacity. I had hopes for the Honda Fit, but at 37MPG, its not even close to being a contender. Too bad the 2006 Civic hatch isn't available as a hybrid or being sold in North America.
