Default Duuuude! He's getting 57.9 miles per gallon!

Had an amusing event take place while coming home from the grocery just now. I've got one of the GreenHybrid licence plate frames on my '05 HCH MT. Mine reads "I get 50MPG. You?"

This evening at a traffic light, the passenger window of the SUV to my left opens, and the driver, who's got a cellphone to his ear, asks, "Excuse me? Do you really get 50 miles per gallon?"

I glance at my dash to see what my current tank average reads, and reply, "No. Lately I'm getting 57.9."

He yells into his cellphone, "Duuuude! He's getting 57.9 miles per gallon!"

At the next red light, his window rolls down again. This time he asks, "Do you mind me asking how much you paid for your car?"

"About 20K," I replied.

"Dude, that's not bad at all. Man..."

"If you're interested, you should go test drive one. They have these on the lot today. You might consider waiting until the 2006 model arrives though... I hear they're even more efficient."

That's funny! You hybrid owners are starting your own grass roots movement, making people aware one person at a time. Sweet .

Had about the same thing at work last week. A few of us went out for lunch and the guy sitting in the passenger seat asked what the 4.3 was on the displa. He couldn't believe that was my l/100km (he only drives mini-vans)

I've got folks at work using my hybrid against me-

"well, your car doesn't pollute as much, so aren't you obligated to drive us to lunch?"

They just don't understand how hard it is to keep up a tank average, especially when a tank last >2 weeks!
