Transfer-type wheelchairs have four small wheels, rather than having two large and two small wheels like a regular wheelchair. I bought a transfer-type wheelchair for my mother, and regularly fit it in my Toyota Camry Hybrid's trunk without any problem. (A regular wheelchair won't fit.) They're also much cheaper than regular wheelchairs.
