Ever Wonder How Much Gas is Wasted by Speeders Passing Hypermilers?
Obviously, I'm not wondering about the gas in your tank--I'm wondering about all those other drivers who seem to want to make a statement by flying around you at wide open throttle because you are going too slow. I would say that it happens to me 3-5 times each leg of the commute. Ironically, I almost always see the offending vehicle (usually an SUV) at the next light so it's nice to know their little show got them there SO much faster.
You would think that more people would slow down with gas prices as high as they are, but I guess it's just easier to complain then actually DO something to reduce consumption.
Commuter car, grocery getter, and summer road tripper--average 10k miles per year.
Winter road trips and ski trips, bad weather commuter and my wife's "daily" driver--expected average 4k miles per year.

Re: Ever wonder how much gas is wasted by hypermiling?
Glad I read carefully.
I hear you, but would have phrased it: How many drivers waste gas blasting by non-speeders? They have serious issues to be so compelled in their aggressive driving to behave even worse. The irony is much of that speeding does not save them time.

Hi,
I once asked my wife if she were about to run out of gas, how would she reach the next exit. Her initial answer, "I would just speed up to get there before I run out."

Wow, that doesn't even make sense. How would she answer now Bob?

Years ago, this was on a list of humorous reasons given to state troopers of drivers pulled over for speeding.

Well... it does work. I'm guilty of the following, I was on the highway, my gas light was not on because my car's meter wasn't working correctly. I thought I had a 1/4 tank left when in fact it was empty. I felt the car stutter, I recognize that I was about to run out of gas. I floored the accelerator and got my car up to over 100mph. The car soon after ran out of gas and I coasted to an off ramp which just so happen to have a gas station right at the end. Had I slowed down I probably wouldn't have made it.

I get passed a lot by people who feel a burning desire to stop at the red light ahead, rather than stay behind me and coast through the light when its green.
Oh, I also reworded the title so it's a bit clearer.

This happened to me yesterday! This lady blasted past me, and then when I rolled up behind her at the next stoplight, she wasn't paying attention so I had to honk to get her to move.

Re: Ever Wonder How Much Gas is Wasted by Speeders Passing Hypermilers?
One reason I like my HAH so much is when challenged by the annoying aggressive SUV'er, I can if desired (and have done so) leave them in MY dust.
The difference is they get 15mpg, I get 30mpg in-town.
It feels soooo good to drive a green semi-muscle car.
