My question is, does anyone know if any company is making and selling similar tires for passenger cars? Theoretically, tires like this would have a smoother ride, get better FE, and last longer than what we're riding on now. If they were $200 each, I'd buy them today.

The issue with these is the side walls strength. The don't hold up laterally when having to make agressive turns.

Does the yellow tire make you ride faster?

Actually, offering a flat free tire for a spare doesn't make sense. If your tires cannot go flat, who needs a spare? But seriously...

I saw a news stroy or something like that months ago about michelin's tire. looks really cool when the car is moving. I would try it out as a spare tire after my last flat experiance.

It looks like these tires would not be rated for long mileage or sufficient handling to be used as a normal tire, but simply to be the equivalent of an airless donut spare -- enough to get to a tire shop comfortably and not much else.

The reasoning behind making them airless is that the air-filled spares are often difficult or inconvenient to fill as they are usually buried inside the trunk, and since they require such high pressure, they can leak and be almost flat when needed. The last time I filled my spare, it had dropped to 30psi, half the 60psi suggested.

Well, I used my last spare 4 times over 90,000 miles. These tires would not be worth the money in my case.

Actually, the Amerityre looks like a good idea as a spare, but only if the Michelin Tweel doesn't come out soon. The Tweel seems like it would be fine for replacement tires, except for the noise problem.
