I think Time did a segment several month ago on 50 things that can be done to save the planet (or was it help it). I don't recall seeing hybrids being one of them but here is ab article on another way to help the planet.

So the methane producing, future steak dinners are the problem. Soon there will there will be a VeganHybrid.com, a web site devoted to taste, vegetarian eating and hybrid electric cars. Ah, the new "Green":






Perhaps veganhybrid.com will be populated by former greenhybrid.com members frustrated that their approach to efficient dining and driving was not given the proper amount of worshipful slop and awe. After a while, they will come back to snipe with slightly modified signature blocks having a leafy green background of kale. There will be subtle hints of methane capture systems and the advantages of "poots and drive." Eventually there will be an impractical but amusing endurance run involving cattle and complex plumbing. I'll plot the mile per bale followed by confused if somewhat bitter replies.<grins>

<SIGH>Guess we'll have to kill off these methane producing herbivores. Being in Alabama, I'll try to put a dent in the local deer population this fall.

Bob, you crack me up, as always. Great graph and pictures.

This quote from the aforementioned article struck me a little odly: I just don't know if many people would consider changing your entire diet to be an 'easy' thing. Think of all the people out there trying to lose weight who have plenty of very strong motivations to alter the set of foods they eat, but can't. Going vegetarian is not a small thing. Small things are CFLs and shopping for energy star appliances. Just my opinion- lifestyle changes are asking more of people than a few simple consumer choices. They probably have more of an impact, too, but that's always the way.
