when coasting and you don't want to regen (basically you want to maximize the distance you'll get with coasting)

put shifter to N turn off key and wait for rpms to drop to zero
then put the key back but one before you actually turn on the engine (electronics will just turn on and you can continue steering and braking) then you'll be coasting with the engine off! when its time to turn back on put the key up and then wait for revs to settle, Back in drive and away you go!

do not attempt if your going over 40 miles per hour, and if your n00b.

.

i got around 20 km a liter when i drove a civic 5 spd using advanced hypermiler techniques
and now I drive a salvage nwh20 prius that gets almost to 25 km/l with 195,000 km to date.

I would imagine that there are several *other* components that will wear out faster as a result of forced autostop: the ignition assembly and the gear selector.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

I tried autostop once in a 69 fury at 45mph,In reality I was power shifting the auto colum shifter, ie showing off and it went like this, 1st, 2nd slapped to drive but slapped to hard and ended up in park and could not get out of park, so I paniced and turned the engine off yes lots of noises & a tow home..
It really has negitive results on the drive train..

LOL!
reminds me of the time i accidentally slapped my wife's '77 pontiac ventura automatic into park while going up a winding hill at 45 miles per hour.

lots of interesting noises....

just glad i missed the R-spot... might have been even noisier!
