What, then, is Ford licensing from Toyota? I assumed it was the old Toyota Hybrid System plans, but then they are not utilizing the same manufactuers for parts?

Hi Eak354:

___Ford will use their own off the shelf but slightly modded PZEV based 2.3 L Focus ICE (probably just an Akinsonized intake valve timing and new intake plenum) and will use some of Toshiba’s electric motors and controls for the Escape hybrid from my understanding. They did not want to use the first generation Toyota HSD and worked around the patents the best they (Ford) could. They still had to purchase some of the technology on the intake, emissions, and I believe the HSD transmission itself however? I will track it down in a few days as to where I read this?

___Good Luck
