Default Gas Prices to go up 25 cents in the next month?

Heard today on ABC radio news an oil analyst who is saying he expects gas prices in the USA to go up about 25 cents in the next 30-40 days.

He may or may not be right - he's just making an educated guess.

But anyone who has that Big SUV as a "weekend car" and who does not fill it up every week might want to make sure you fill it this week or today, save yourself a coupla bucks.

We Hybrid owners do not care all that much, eh? 25 cents more per gallon only means about $3 per fillup, whereas some BIG SUV tanks can hold 31-35 gallons, meaning a $7-$9 difference.

Anyway, just wanted to "headsup" anyone who had not heard this.....

Prices always go up around the time they switch gas formulations from winter to summer. Seems like a pretty fair estimate to me; the more that prices go up, the more that domestically-produced alternatives like ethanol and biodiesel will become financially viable, reducing our dependance on foreign oil.

I just heard on the radio news today that OPEC is projecting $80 per barrel in the short term future.

.

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

Default I guess I failed to mention tht part.....

I meant to say that this "price jump" is more related to the world situation right now and the OPEC thieves than it is related to the normal price jump during the formulation switch.

Well then, how about some easy reading for everyone?

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...e_050303134221

"KUWAIT CITY (AFP) - Prices of crude oil could surge to as high as 80 dollars a barrel within the next two years but such a level would not last long, OPEC (news - web sites)'s acting secretary general was quoted as saying.

"I can affirm that the price of a barrel of crude oil rising to 80 dollars in the near future is a weak possibility," Adnan Shehab-Eldin told Kuwait's Al-Qabas newspaper.

"But I cannot rule out (the possibility) of oil prices rising to 80 dollars a barrel within the next two years," he said on Thursday."

Like I said, it's getting to the point where it's actually going to start making economic sense to use domestically produced ethanol and biodiesel rather than importing more oil every year. I see that as a good thing really. Ethanol and biodiesel are cleaner than gasoline and petro-diesel, and they provide a means of getting away from depending on other unstable nations with unelected governments to supply us.

Default Based on $80 a barrel oil prices

Gas prices in the USA would be around $3 to $3.25 a gallon....Thank gosh for Hybrids !!

I agree anything we can do to get out from under OPEC's thieving thumbs would be a good thing.....

would be nice to see bio fuels become more popular.

by the way a large SUV has a 42-44 gallon tank. Cost me almost $80 to fill up before the prices started creeping up this week.

Sure Glad we use the Jetta at 40+ mpg even if Diesel just went from 1.68 to 1.92 in less than 2 weeks.

oh and its also China that is driving up prices supply and demand

Yeah I read that by the end of next year or something China will have moved up to be the #2 biggest oil user in the world. Just one more reason we need to start building up our ability to be self-sufficient so other nations' growth doesn't impact our ability to go about our business.
