From Good to Bad
I liked the Chrysler 300 back in 1999 ( check it out)
Then they had to do a radical makeover on the styling ( check it out)
With very little digital editing, I took the styling to it's disgusting logical conclusion. ( check it out)
It's not just an isolated case - what's this CTS-V trying to be? ( check it out)

Re: From Good to Bad
I must be missing something here. You liked the 300 when it had boring, bulbous styling, but don't like the hard edges of the new 300 or the edgy CTS-V either?

Re: From Good to Bad
A slideshow might have illustrated it better. The first picture was the Chrysler 300, the 2nd the redesign, the 3rd was a simple strech that easily makes it look like another SUV. I was hinting the Cadilliac CTS has a little bit of the Escalade look.
At least these are cars, but my point is Detroit seems to be obsessed with even making cars look like SUVs. High boxy body, blunt not so aerodynamic front end, huge grill, not so big windows, huge tires for a car.....
These cars are definitely better than an SUV in terms of safety and fuel economy, but the styling still eats on me. What is so wrong with a sedan that looks like an Accord?

Re: From Good to Bad
Lot's of cars were boxy in the 1980's - the Chrysler K cars come to mind. I did not have a problem with angular then. It's angular, big, and tall together that bugs me. It seemed so obvious that it was an "SUV as a sedan", that I took that Chrysler 300 picture and vertically streched it until it looked like a common SUV.
So maybe I'm getting picky. If these cars replaced the majority of SUVs, it would still reduce our dependance on foreign oil.
This SUV look seems to be an obsession....

BMW's cars and SUV's look the same too. They do it on purpose. It's called a family resemblance.

The picture reminds me of the pacifica wagon...
The PT cruiser (neon drive train) & the GM HHR ( caviler drive train)
are SUV wanna be's The would make great hybrids (retro look) and are designed by the same person who worked for plymouth but quit and was hired by GM.
1. The mini van comes to mind also, its concidered a wagon to the DMV.
2. First Oldsmobile folded, now I hear Caddilac is soon to follow...?
3. Chrysler/damler has the new cool looking POD car that is to be sold in europe.
I think the big three should have gone hybrid sooner than snickering on the side lines at what a joke it was, and it wasn't going to sell.. I guess thier finding out now by scrambling to put out thier own versions and hoping they sell.. (but judging thier reliability records will they stay on the road long)?
04' # 5, W/leather & JBL omitted.
"Prius, Just ask the person that drives one"
04' Tundra, 18mpg city & 22mpg hwy.
04' Prius, 60mpg city & 53mpg hwy.

Re: From Good to Bad
I don't think this design trend is coming from the look of the SUV or is trying to reflect the SUV styling.
The higher body build, with smaller windows is designed to give a tough appearance - like the old muscle cars, usually with chopped tops. The wheels go along those same lines -like the old fatties. I actually read this in some car mag about 2 years ago. The consumers this car is aimed toward are those in the age category that worshipped the old Barracudas, Dusters, Chevelles...etc. I like the look - it looks tough, mean, and like you are getting more car for the money.
But heck, it's late at night...it could be something completely different...
