Default Help With CVT

Hello,

I'm a student in windsor ontario and I need help trying to find a cvt transmission. I am making a model to show students how it work. I'm just looking for somewhere to get one. I can't find any in junkyard. Does anyone know a company where I can get a honda insight cvt?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

It may make more sense to visit a well stocked, hobby shop, and buy the model parts needed to make a demonstration CVT. Basicly you'll need two shafts with a spline; four cones; a belt; and a hinged beam and bearings to apply and back-off two of the cones to change the ratio. Springs can also be used on the beam pivot to maintain the belt tension.

The beauty is all of the parts can be mechanically operated giving your fellow students and idea of what forces are involved and the effects.

The Toyota CVT mechanism is quite a bit different and requires a different set of parts. The real challenge is making an open, planetary gear system but you didn't ask about that one.

GOOD LUCK!

Bicycle CVT's exist too, prehaps you could just borrow one from a shop.

Snowmobiles as well. Reclaimable parts should be in supply this time of year. Check around communities that have small semi-frozen lakes.

Find someone with a Shopsmith. They've had a CVT for over 50 years!

Many moons ago I did building maintenance for a health club. Some of the treadmills implemented a variable speed (with a constant rpm motor) via a split pulley. That may be another option for you.
