Angry High voltage battery

My Ford dealer reports the high voltage battey will cost $7,259.00 to replace after the waranty. Any idea what the car is worth without a high voltage battery. The replace cost excides the value of the car. Maybe this is why Ford is not planning to building number of hybrid cars???

What are you doing that would warrant battery replacement? The battery is produced to outlast the vehicle! (in Fords extreme testing labs, they have yet to have a failure) In addition, should the battery fail, they'd probably go a ways to picking up the tab unless you did something to it.

Mike,

When (or if) you ever need a HV (traction) battery in your FEH you will be able to get one from the salvage market at a greatly reduced price. Your dealer (and many others) do not deserve to be in business when they scare customers with irrelevant data.

JeffD

ps: the current wholesale price of a new Prius battery is about $1100 and retails for about $2200. Salvaged Prius batteries run from $500 to $1000 on Ebay.

So how much are you asking for this terrible car?

I hear the same general price amount quoted by a Lexus dealer (my coworker as the 400h and he asked the same thing). However, his dealer made sure he knew that the quoted price is today's *current* price if no warantee was taken into account whatsoever. He also said that by the time the warantee expires (6-8 yrs from now) it might be around $3k -- again, he emphasized t hat the number is only a guess.

My guess, or I'm hoping, that by the time the battery dies, lithium Ion, or lithium polymer will be available for less cost, less weight, and way more power (plus a built-in PHEV charger !)

I suspect that after-market batterys will breath new life into hybrids with 100,000 miles on them and non-hybrid cars will suffer as being obslete.Battery development has just begun.I have 2 hybrids and don't think I'll ever buy another nonhybrid.

So how much do you want for this useless Ford?

You know winter is coming up and you sure don't want to have to jump-start that big old expensive traction battery! So just let me know how much you want for that terrible hybrid Ford . . . Make a SWAG!

Remember, the world is full of people who are willing to fool you with LYING FALSE CLAIMS!! But you have a friend. Just let me know how much you want for that terrible Ford hybrid.

Perhaps you are shy. I'll offer you Oh, $12,000. Yeap, that is a fair price for a vehicle whose battery is instantly about to fail on you. . . . YEAP, $12,000 for a Ford hybrid whose battery is going into winter and will fail at a moment's notice.

Bob Wilson

ps. Your Ford guy wasn't standing near an F-150 pickup truck that has been on the lot for 5 months waiting for a buyer, was he?
