Once again, Honda throws another ball into the game. They have developed an ultra lean fuel burnin' machine.

http://world.honda.com/HDTV/news/2003-4031127a/

Keep in mind they are showing 36mpg with a 156hp engine in a van application. If this engine were in a car, it would be much better.

Hi Challernger1:

___GM also has a 65:1 Lean-Burn ICE running around as a V8 test bed. IIRC, it included variable cylinder bank(s) shut down technology as well but I don’t recall all the details …

___Good Luck

Now that is real cool. Direct injection is really something, if you have good fuel. I know our fuel is way better than it was just 5 years ago, but I think we need to get to the European standard.
GM has had some great stuff. A DI V8. I can see some guy in a Corvette "turbocharged" V8 with DI getting over 30mpg while putting along, and putting down 600hp when the need arises.
What I like about the DI, it benefits big HP, and even more, turbo charged engines in the arena of pre-det. I'd like to see the specs on that V8 from GM.
