Default How do Hybrids work?

Hello everyone! I am sure you have all heard about Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. Ever wonder how it works? Or why is it so raved about? We all know Hybrid technology can be a great alternative to traditional motors and can have great benefits. On http://www.toyota.com , they have a section which explains all you need to know about hybrid technology and what makes Toyota's so great.

Keep looking Jarom. There is a plethora of information on how Toyota's synergy drive works. Since I have purchased my Prius, I have become obsessed with learning all that I can about it and how we can make it better. IE. PHEV, ethanol, fuel cells, and more.

Rather than explain it myself, I'll refer to the websites, who have nice animations.

http://www.fordvehicles.com/escapehybrid/how/index.asp Fords site about how it works. (Though you may find that your FEH can go faster than 25 miles per hour in EV mode; up to 40 MPH, and that you may spend a great deal in hybrid mode, utilizing both energy sources for a maximum efficiency)

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/hybridtech.shtml has a great flash demonstratration on how hybrids work. (The FEH is a Full Hybrid)
The second one shows how all the different hybrids work, and it's not bad.

This will give you a good idea of how the Power Split Device works. RPM limits are based on 01-03 Prius.

And here is a site by the British paper The Guardian that gives a good explanation. Or rather the flash animation is the best I've seen about this subject for a long time.
